The summoning rooms on campus could, at times, leave something to be desired. Granted, they don't exactly need a lot in the way of furnishing--the majority of the floor space is meant to be marked over, after all--but more than a tiny desk jammed into a corner for note-taking would be nice. But if that's all Tanyuu has available to herself for this particular project she'll just have to make do. She doesn't really need to be here, actually; her thesis is on magical biology, not summoning techniques. But she needs a distraction rather desperately, and the excuse of observing the incarnation process is...well, it's enough to keep her from feeling guilty about putting off that request to the aquatics expert again.
Tanyuu leans forward in her chair, watching Lucy trace out elaborate runes that she understands in theory but loses the plot of put together in this particular fashion. "Is this meant to be a full binding ritual, or just a temporary summonings?"
"Binding... hopefully." Lucy straightens up and takes a step back, looking over her work with pursed lips. She's glad for the company, at least; as much as she loves first summonings, the setup can be so tedious.
"This type of summon can be made permanent right away, since it's more a... manifestation of energy than an individual, if that makes sense? Contract negotiations are quicker with the realization of a concept than with a distinct individual." She crouches down to correct a line. "But, for that same reason, they can be kind of unpredictable."
Tanyuu hums and nods at the explanation, tapping her chin idly. "Because you're starting from scratch, essentially?" It certainly explains the amount of stabilizers in the circle. "It sort of sounds like you're combining two spells into one, if I understand correctly."
"Not quite from scratch, but close! That energy has already been partially shaped by... collective cognition, that was it. They're ideas that already exist - the spell is more like the glue to keep them together.
"But-- in that way, it is kind of two in one, yeah. Bringing them through the gate, and holding them together at the same time."
She pauses, squinting down at the circle again. "...This would be easier if the floor were cleaner."
It's so hard to see what she's doing!! That is clearly the only risk here.
"Is it not? Doesn't look that bad to me." Granted, the floor is so scuffed and stained from years upon years of use and abuse that 'clean' is a very nebulous term; but from where she's sitting Lucy's circle is easy enough to distinguish from the rest.
"But that really is fascinating--I'm far more used to dealing with extant species than anything this nebulous."
